Cord Blood Awareness Month is all about educating families about the benefits of cord blood banking. Cord blood education is important to help families understand the potential benefits available by banking their baby’s cord blood.
Cord blood is collected from the umbilical cord immediately after the birth of a new baby. Cord blood is a rich source of stem cells, and many experts are conducting clinical trials to uncover new forms of therapy that can be derived from these cord blood stem cells.
As part of the educational campaign, Insception Lifebank is hosting a special online education session on Tuesday July 8. The session begins at 7pm EST, allowing many Canadians to set time aside in their schedules to participate in the session.
Parents can easily register for the online session, and join in the discussion. Once the session begins, here are some of the topics expected to be discussed:
• What is cord blood and how is it collected
• What are cord blood stem cells
• How can cord blood benefit your family
• What is cord tissue, and how does it add new benefits to cord blood banking
• What are the differences between mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs)
• Where can you bank cord blood and cord tissue
• Are there differences between family and public cord blood banking
These are just some of the broad topics that will likely be touched upon during the session. Parents are also encouraged to ask questions of the presenters to go further into detail about some of the broader topics, and improve the overall educational experience.
The goal of the online session is to encourage families to learn more about cord blood. Referrals may also be made available for in person education sessions at hospitals that are partnered with Insception Lifebank’s cord blood program across Canada. Are you ready to be cord blood educated?
