“Honey, we’re expecting!”
The moment you learn of your partner’s pregnancy you explode into numerous emotions. You’re excited, nervous, and you may even feel awkward about sharing your insecurities and fear, that’s only natural, especially if you are going to be a father for the first time!
Here are a couple of guidelines for the soon to be fathers, follow them and you will survive this 9 month roller coaster!
- You’re probably going to be told by everyone that you no longer matter, at least for a while. The entire spotlight will be on your wife and her baby bump, as she is the one that will suffer random bouts of nausea, who will bloat and gain weight and feel ligament pain. That’s not to say that you won’t be emotional, confused and stressed, don’t worry; maybe you can still attempt to reach out to your buddies for a sense of belonging?
- Her appetite is going to be all over the place. It’s true, you may have to do night calls for ice cream and burritos, but hey, you got to satisfy that craving of hers, and if you are lucky, you can nibble on some of the leftovers.
- Tie up your laces, because you need to be comfortable running around trying to catch up with her- and her mood swings. One day she will be ecstatic, the next day she will be angry, point is, you will need to learn how to cope with it. Worst case scenario, you can build yourself a man cave and hibernate for the next 9 months.
- Bathroom schedule? There is no such thing, expect her to go frequently and if she does not make it on time, be prepared to mop the floor.
- Baby proof your home. As the delivery date gets closer, make sure you have the knobs, outlets, cabinets and possibly everything else baby proofed, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
- Have your car filled up with gasoline EVERY DAY, as you’ll never know when you may need to drive her to the hospital.
- When her water breaks, you may have a panic attack, but get it together, this is the real deal! Grab the bag, start the car, call the hospital and most importantly, don’t forget the momma!
Yes the mother’s do go through an abundance of mixed emotions and feelings, no argument there, however, we cannot be blind sighted of all the efforts the fathers have put in as well. During and after the pregnancy fathers have been an excellent support system, have had great patience and they don’t always get the credit they deserve. So, Insception Lifebank would like to thank all the fathers who have survived the pregnancy journey alongside their partner, and continue to be a great role model for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
