The beginning of the New Year is a time for a fresh start – for yourself and the whole family. As a parent, it’s up to you to ensure you keep up with your resolution in order to set the example for the kids, and here are a few ideas.
Unplug.
In today’s increasingly digital society, it is important to spend some time offline. Children can easily get caught up playing video games, text messaging and checking Facebook, so be sure that you spend time as a family without digital distractions. Setting aside quality, family time each week can help your family grow closer together, and work as one to achieve those resolution goals.
Eat Healthy
A commitment to eating healthier is a very popular resolution for many families, but maintaining that goal can prove difficult. Try going out for fast food less frequently or adding one serving of fruits and vegetables to your daily diets. It might also be a good idea to make the switch to whole grain wheat products like pasta, bread and rice.
Get Active
You can spend more quality time together by ensuring that everyone in the family works towards the same fitness goals. Get the kids to join a sports league while you take up yoga or go to the gym. You can even go on weekly jogs, walks, hikes – or even schedule a family sporting event once every month.
Of course everyone has their own resolutions and their own strategies to meet those goals. Have you made other goals to commit to this year? Let us know about them on our Facebook page, we’re always looking for new ways to bring families together.
